Abecedary

Jessamyn and Jenna played a game that looks like fun. I’m doubly flattered that I made Jenna’s list, but when I tried it, I was slightly appalled at what it revealed about my web surfing. New resolution? Something about spending my time in more interesting places. To be fair, a lot of interesting things come in over RSS, which I read in Liferea.

A is for Apartment Therapy which I peek at when I’m bored.
B is for DocumentCloud’s blog which it is my job to maintain.
C is for Chase bank, because I have the online banking login page bookmarked. The City Reliquary is there, too.
D is for Google Docs which I use once a week for our staff call. I’d like to ween us of that drug. Maybe I’ll start using PiratePad?
E is for Etsy which I also peek at when I’m bored. It is a strange and wonderful place to windowshop.
F is for Facebook. Le sigh.
G is for gmail, but I have a good excuse. See, I use my gmail account for Craigslist postings and we’ve been trying to move a lot of mixers and pre-amps and three speed wheels in preparation for our move. I’m kind of surprised it ranks so high, actually. I thought Gothamist, Github and Good Real Food figured more prominently. Meanwhile, Craigslist is utterly useless. The only responses I ever seem to get are scammers taking plays straight from the fraud alert page.
H is for HSBC, another online banking bookmark.
I is for Issues, github’s issues page for DocumentCloud to be precise. It isn’t public or I’d link to it. It is a crap issue tracker, but it is what we use. Nobody but me liked Mantis, nobody but Scott liked Unfuddled, so we have this ungodly thing that doesn’t support assignments or statuses or any real queries. Everyone but me likes it fine.
J is for Jessamyn but only because it’s the last thing I read. Even Jenna ranks lower. Possibly because I didn’t do any catching up on her blog this morning. Either way, the secret truth is that the ONA topped the list the first time I looked.
K is for krrb which seems to be no better for selling things than Craigslist. We should just give stuff away. The whole point is that we don’t need it anymore.
L is for Luna.local, my localhost. I run Semantic Mediawiki there and call it a database. It rules.
M is for My Marrakesh because she posts pretty pictures.
N is for Craigslist, though it could just as easily be for New York Shitty, the Daily News or NICAR.
O is for Oxford, because health insurance is exasperating. If I hadn’t spent so much time there last week, it would be for Open Street Map or Omidyar.
P is for the IdeaLab, to whom I owe a post.
Q doesn’t count. Every URL that comes up is a long one with some ?q=foo query string in it. I’ll have to get to know QZAP, metafilter queues and Questionable Content.
R is for Regretsy, misanthropic fun. Followed closely by Raízes do Brasil, Recycle a Bicycle and Mayfirst‘s user panel, which I’ve got bookmarked as red.mayfirst.org.
S is for our staging site, though Semantic MediaWiki, SFLC and Selectricity’s code are hovering there as well.
T is for my Tumblr dashboard which I’m not ashamed to love.
U is for Unfuddle, though we canceled our account.
V is for myself, my photos and my mostly unused vimeo account. There’s also an article I recently sent to someone, about Facebook’s quest for world domination.
X is for xckd. Of course.
Y is for Yelp because it is useful.
Z is for sites I haven’t visited in eons. ZineWiki isn’t one of them, but it looks great.

PS. Today in gratitude, Mom’s first quilt faded as it is, May‘s Christmas album (which has lain dormant for a few years I think) and Hilary’s homemade marshmallows. This time I’m putting the album away with the angel chimes so I’ll remember I have it.
